A New Day in Nepal
Last month the headlines in the Nepali Times read, May 18, 2006 - The Day a New Nepal was Born. If you followed the international news, you saw the confrontation that was forced by a grass roots movement of Nepali people who demanded that the King step down and that a true democracy be established. Now, for the first time in history, there is a democratic, secular government in Nepal . For a nation that was the world's only Hindu kingdom, this is stunning news and could be the beginning of change. Persecution has become less of an issue in Nepal , and if this trend toward democracy continues it could set the stage for truly unrestricted ministry of the Gospel.
Village Church Plants
In the past 2 years we have planted 31 village churches in Nepal . We have workers ready for 9 more churches and hope to launch them in the next few months.
The Children's home continues to do well and Pastor David Sagar and his wife, Sony, have moved the church to a larger location to accommodate the growth the Lord is giving that congregation.
Leaders' Testimonies
Some of our village church leaders have sent encouraging reports on how the Lord has moved supernaturally to help them in their work.
Pastor Ram Bahadur Tharu writes:
I had much difficulty before coming to the ministry. My wife and parents wanted me to go to India to find work and support my family but my desire was to serve the Lord. My parents were upset about this and told me to take my family and live separately from them, so I did. I began going early every morning to different villages in our area to preach the Gospel and encourage new believers. I usually wouldn't return until late in the evening. One day I went to Bijaya Nagar village and held a service in the newly started church there. We had a wonderful meeting that went all day. When I returned home my wife did not cook anything because all we had was a little salt. We went to bed without eating and the next day we ate the salt. On our third day without food my little four year old son kept asking me, Father, when are we going to eat? I was in tears and went out to a lonely place to pray. My son's words broke my heart. I told no one of our need but that very day, a brother came and left a 200 lb bag of rice at my home! This year is a year of expansion and we are praying and planning to plant new churches in Khairiguan, Rajapur, Jorebanz, Khaireni, Thakaila, Khusala and Nahan.
Pastor Indradev Chaudhary writes:
Two years ago, we started a church in Majgaun village. I gave my room to start the church and since then the Lord has helped us to buy land and to build a building. We worked hard to put up the building and there were many who tried to stop us. People in our area became angry and threatened to kill me. I told them I was willing to die to serve Jesus. Now that the Lord has helped us to establish this church we are planning many more churches in the villages of our area.
Pastor Bikas writes:
I did not have strong faith inside me since I have been a believer for only one year. But this year the Lord has been doing many wonders through my life and our church. I and Ram Bahadur went to Jorebanz last month. Many people told us not to go there because of the danger of the Maoist rebels. In fact, we did have trouble and we were abducted by the Maoists who told us they were going to hang us. God took all our fear and worry and we began to laugh. They were very surprised and after four hours they released us and told us to go and preach the message of Jesus. People of this place are so much in pressure of darkness and need Jesus desperately. We shared the Good News with them and they said, We have never heard of this Jesus. Where can we get this medicine? I am planning to return to this place and start a new church.
Pastor Sethlal BK writes:
We have been praying for land and a building and this year the Lord helped us to build a beautiful large church. Two weeks ago a Hindu priest gave his life to Jesus. He burned his old scripture and all his items of idol worship. He and his family are coming to church every week and are happy now.
Pastor Dipnath Dhital writes:
I left for Jumla on April 7th in 2005. This place is difficult to reach and after a day by bus, it takes a week of walking in the high mountains to get there. I was alone and it was difficult for me then but as I began to share the Gospel from village to village the Lord gave me fruit. Since April of last year, the Lord has helped me to establish 13 house churches in this region. |
