Opportunity

Nepal is in a season of opportunity that I have not seen since the early 1990's when the democracy movement gave occasion for the Gospel to make huge inroads into the Nepali culture. Churches exploded in growth in the Katmandu Valley, and in certain parts of the most accessible rural areas, village churches made remarkable progress. That growth slowed over the past five years as there was a gradual eroding of the political stability of the country. But now, with the dismantling of the king's power and a cease fire with the Maoist rebels, there is great hope in Nepal. Property prices are rising daily, and even in the rural areas, there is a sense of opportunism similar to what there was 15 years ago.

Buildings Going Up Fast!

I can't take much credit for the work we are doing in Nepal, but we have been able to partner with a very productive ministry in the south central region, near the India border. We are working with pastor K.B. Basel and his wife Sushila, a very capable and proven Nepali couple. Pastor David Knox in Grove, Oklahoma introduced us to Pastor K.B., and David and I have been working together to help develop this work. Bev and I are sending funds monthly to pastor K.B. and using these funds to train workers, build churches, purchase land, and pioneer new works.

Pastor K.B. has now planted 47 churches, and the Lord is helping us to add new churches every month. When I last visited pastor K.B., most of his churches were meeting in the cramped homes of believers. Now 11 buildings have been constructed and seven tracts of land are being purchased.

Since we began working with Pastor K.B. over 1 1/2 years ago, we have been able to send over $38,000 to help train workers, and purchase property and buildings. One year from now it is very likely that the cost of land will more than double in Nepal as will the cost of building. Now is the time to move aggressively as we enter into a season of unprecedented harvest. Thanks for all you are doing to help us make a difference.
