Children
Thanks to your faithfulness, every one of our kids are sponsored through March 2007. They are growing up so quickly! I remember feeling a bit apprehensive when we first began the children's home, and to be honest, I was reluctant to take on the responsibility. But now that I see the children growing and doing well in school I wonder why it took me so long to commit. Some of these children would not be alive today if we had not taken them in, and those who would have survived would have endured unimaginable suffering.
Church
We began the children's home as a way of serving the Nepali people and the community we had targeted for a church plant. Filled with temples, this particular town is an ancient Hindu holy place. At the time we started there were no visible churches, and I was concerned about persecution. Our strategy of beginning first with the children's home proved to be effective, since we were able to gain the trust and respect of the community by serving the needy. We now have a congregation approaching 150 adults, an adult literacy class, and a sewing class. We've even had donations of rice and vegetables from the Hindu neighbors given for the children.
David & Sony
Pastor David Sagar and his wife, Sony are doing a superb job. I have literally spent months with David hiking the mountains of Nepal and love him like a son. I am so proud of the faithfulness he has demonstrated and of his commitment to the vision. Two years ago, I was able to purchase a motorcycle for David and he has made good use of it. He and Sony travel once per week to villages in the outlying areas and have begun starting house churches in the less accessible areas. These are modest beginnings, but they will grow. It was less than two years ago when we started the Bhaktapur church with just a handful of people.
outreaches
David launched a congregation in a village about a day's journey from Bhaktapur, and the young leader of that church travels once per month to visit with David. He stays in a spare room at the children's home, and David spends two days discipling and training him. Our vision is to slowly add more leaders to this process as David develops in his ability to lead.
