Myanmar Connection

Last year Bev and I had the opportunity to teach in a leadership training school in Singapore. In the class was a young woman from Myanmar who left a distinct impression on both of us. Great student, Godly attitude and clearly destined to be used of the Lord. She has returned to her native land of Myanmar, was recently married, and she and her husband serve as youth pastors in a small but growing church in Yangon. We are in Nepal this month but on the way we stopped in Myanmar for a week to visit this congregation and minister to their leaders.

September Riots

Myanmar is an interesting and volatile country. Formally called Burma, it is a highly restricted Buddhist culture. Until recently, Christians were actively persecuted by the government but riots in September of 2007, which were led by Buddhist monks, has drawn the attention of the government away from the Christians and toward the political element among the Buddhist priests. Communications in and out of the country are strictly monitored and we found that getting news from home was sometimes a bit of a challenge.

Churchplanting Future

Though Myanmar is not a country that is in the area of our focus, it is a place of great need. We were able to make some solid contacts with effective ministries there that I intend to pass along to a friend of mine, Tony Foster, who is developing a church-planting vision for the country. Tony can be reached at: fostertonyl@gmail.com if you are interested in helping him in his work.

Jesus Film - Nepal

Last week, David Sagar, one of our leaders in Nepal, and the director of our children's home, received a video projector from friends of our ministry. He began to use it immediately and is doing two to three outreaches a week using the Jesus Film. Twenty people came to the Lord in his first outreach! Thanks for all you are doing to help us take the Good News to Asia.
